International Film Festival of Native People REGULATIONS

1. Purpose – International Film Festival of Native People is devoted to fiction, documentary and animation short and full-length films about or made by native people around the world in order to promote knowledge, respect and acceptance for them trying not to fall into clichés.

Thus, gradually the festival is intended as a discussion area for meetings and projects of mutual interest.

2. Organization - Organized by the NGO Gaia, la concha azul, which is dedicated to the promotion of ecology, respect of the environment, culture and native people and had been declared of Public Interest by the Council of Madrid. As such, Gaia is a member of the Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity and the Anna Lindh Foundation. The festival, which this year will take place on the second week of October, is independent and awards will be granted by the jury and by the public.

3. Sections:

 It will feature the following sections:

Official section of competing full.length films:

Fiction: from 80 minutes on.

Documentary: from 60 minutes on

Official section of competing short-films: Up to 20 minutes.

(Films not meeting the requirements, but standing out for their quality or testimonial value may be selected to be shown out of competition).

Monographic sections and cycles that offer films of a high cinematic level and social commitment as well as aesthetic and discursive search, or films concerning a particular reality, may be grouped together by country, theme, movement, authorship or other criteria adopted by contest’s management.

There will be no production deadline. Films aspiring to award must have been completed or released after January 1, 2014 and not having applied for the festival in previous occasions. It is not an essential condition, even though not having participated in other Festivals will be considered positively.

4. Registrations - From April 25 at 10:30 am to August 2.

Films will only be registered by their directors or with the express authorization for our Festival signed by them. Registrations by distributors without the express authorization to be registered for our Festival by the director will not be accepted. Invitations are only for filmmakers. No bulk mail by distributors will be accepted, unless they pay the registration for each film.

For the registration to be effective it is imperative:
A) To upload the film to any of the platforms listed at the end of regulations on the web.
B) To pay the registration fee via platforms or Paypal elojocojo@elojocojo.org within regular period: Full-length films: €20
Short-films: €15

Once submitted, the sheet will have an affidavit and shall conclude that you know and accept this Regulation. Once the preselection is reported, the following shall be submitted: By e-mail: Code number to embed the trailer on the web Download link: Poster A photograph of the film A director’s photograph A copy of the full-length film or short film (.mov format) including Spanish subtitles, without encrypted code impeding them from being copied and WITHOUT WATERMARK (which constitute a reason for exclusion). A copy of the full-length film (.mov format) including Spanish subtitles (at least the .srt file in Spanish) PLEASE DO NOT send by e-mail photos or other documents that we have not expressly requested to be sent by this means.

5. Language – It is desirable that the films are presented in Spanish or including Spanish subtitles. If the version is not in Spanish or does not include Spanish subtitles, selection copy must include English subtitles and at the time of selection must be unfailingly accompanied by .SRT dialogues in Spanish or subtitled in Spanish (not meeting this requirement will constitute a reason for exclusion)

6. Exhibitions – Once registered and selected, the film will not be withdrawn from the program under no circumstances. In the event of not having enough films registered or not having enough quality, registrations will be automatically opened and it will be postponed to the next year’s edition.

Exhibitions within the framework of the Festival will be online, in different places in Madrid and later in different cultural places around Spain.

Copies will become part of Gaia’s video library. Thus, they could be shown in Sansueña Cultural Centre and be eligible for Gaia alternative distribution.

The film can also be selected to participate in Gaia online channel, getting a significant percentage of the benefits.

7. Presentations - It is important for each director to make use of the Festival’s different spaces in order to promote his work.

8. Selected films will have the opportunity to access to exhibition and distribution in territories .tv,,  be purchased for its display in national television or participate in our online platform obtaining important benefits.

9. Transport of the copies – Shipment of the copies must be paid by the shipper. DVD copies will not be returned.

If a copy of the film is shipped on material support, the shipper must inform by e-mail to elojocojo@gmail.com, about the number of air waybill, company, flight number and shipment date.
Shipping costs must be paid by the person who registered the film. It should be indicated that the copy has no commercial value and declare a maximum value of US$15 for custom purposes. If the cost of any shipment is debited to the Festival, it will be return to its destination.

Transport and taxes must be prepaid before sending the copies to the Festival. Shipments with charges will not be accepted.

The festival does not cover the costs of returning the 35mm copies nor does it return any other type of copy or material.

10. Information material and advertising - The Festival must receive, unfailingly with the registration, the advertising material of each film consisting of: press kit, photographs of the authors as well as a short trailer on multi-zone DVD.

Thus, we provide as much information as possible to the international and local press to awaken the interest of general public for each film.

*Non-delivery of this material is not exclusive, but it will be beneficial for broadcasting it and increasing the number of spectators coming to watch the film.

11. Invitations - The Festival will make the necessary contacts to facilitate the stay and tickets for filmmakers who aspire to Jury prizes. These filmmakers, if requested in the period in which they are convened, will have the opportunity to present their films and make a call to the press, according to the possibilities that provide the supports and sponsors each year.

12. Broadcasting. Gaia aims to give greater publicity and outreach to the films presented. At the same time, Gaia recommends films for local distribution in theaters and can also support them on the market.

Gaia also carries a traveling exhibition with selections of the Festival in the Sansueña Cultural Centre and different cultural spaces. It will also seek to facilitate the participation of films in different friend festivals promoting knowledge of the work.

13. Seminars - One of the Festival's purposes is to facilitate discussion and exchange of cinematic experiences in an environment of cultural integration, for which seminars will be organized.

14. Preselection - It will be in charge of professionals selected and endorsed by the Festival.

15. Awards - Pending confirmation of funding sources, the festival jury will grant:

Public award If the jury considered it appropriate, there may be special award consisting of certificates of recognition to the special qualities deemed noteworthy.

The diploma and money prize, if any, shall be shipped only to the director.

The films that received an award undertake to mention it in all advertising, posters and press materials, adding the logo of the Festival and respecting the exact wording of the jury's decision, condition sine qua non to be award creditor.

Indicators to evaluate films: - Reality narrated - Impact of the addressed issue - Originality - Management quality - Environment in which it was made and its difficulties - Adversities to carry out - Script qualities - Artistic quality - Technical quality

16. General Provisions - Registration is a participation agreement of the film involving acceptance of the conditions of this Regulation. In cases for which no provision is made, the decision will be up to the Festival.

17. The Festival management will establish the order and date of exhibition of each film according to the showrooms.
